We do kids wetsuits a little differently. Frequently Asked Questions
Not really. Most kids' wetsuits, including the ones from the big surf brands, are neoprene suits that are essentially smaller versions of adult designs, often with fiddly zips and flaps that make them a battle to get on and off. Ours are Yulex natural rubber, cut for how small kids actually move, in colours you can spot in the water, with a simple back zip that makes dressing quick. They're built as kids' wetsuits from the start.
Neoprene is made from petroleum, and it's what nearly every other kids' wetsuit uses. Yulex is natural rubber tapped from responsibly grown trees, so it's softer on delicate and sensory-sensitive skin, free from a lot of what parents want to keep off their kids, and easier on the ocean these suits get worn in.
Yes. Every suit is rated UPF 50+, which blocks more than 98% of UV. More skin covered means less suncream to wrestle on and more time in the water without the worry.
It's usually the softness that wins them over, even with sensory-sensitive kids. None of the stiff rubber or scratchy seams you get in a standard surf-brand suit, so it doesn't fight them when they move. Lots of parents come to us unsure and then tell us their kids get excited to put it on.
Size down to your child's age, and don't size up. A 2 year old takes the 1-2, a 4 year old the 3-4, and so on down the range. If your child is petite, go one size smaller again, so a petite 5 year old takes the 3-4. Our wetsuits are designed as kids' wetsuits, not shrunk-down adult ones, so a fitted size still goes on and comes off easily. Too big and they turn bulky, and the suit won't keep them warm or protected the way it should.
